on returning-

sometimes it takes being anonymous in an airport surrounded by the once familiar- now quite reminiscent- to return to what's truly important. this is what i've experienced the past five days flying on an airplane alone, for the very first time. visiting my family and grandma alone, for the very first time. when my mother was twenty, she uprooted from chicago and took a train to new york city with fifty dollars in her pocket and a dream in her heart. within my mother lives an invincible spirit of courage, therein burns a fire of persistence. my mother knew what she wanted and went for it. i only hope to live as boldly, forsaking fear for a greater aim. chicago was an answered prayer. a deep, long needed escape from recent frustrations through the looking glass of where i came from. and i must say, i came from a line of absolutely magnificent human beings.

and the city i came from isn't too bad either, aye?
